Family Pics from The Camp

The Tuttle Family Camp on Cazenovia Lake, Cazenovia, NY

The Tuttle Camp was built in 1949 by Jack and Louise Tuttle on the West shore of Cazenovia Lake as a summertime retreat, and as a gathering place for their children, grandchildren, and other family and friends.

The Camp is on 4 acres of land with 156' of lake frontage, and consists of the original main camp, a guest apartment (added in the 1960's) and a small bunkhouse.

The Camp is today owned and maintained by granddaughter Leslie Tuttle DiTrani and her husband Chris, with help from many others in the Tuttle extended family, and it remains an important part of the Tuttle family summertime tradition.

The Camp is available to non-family renters from roughly May 1st through November 15th.

Peak season runs from the week of July 4th through Labor Day weekend, during which time The Camp is available for weekly rental. Please note that July 4th week is booked for family.

During off-peak times we are flexible about minimum stays, etc. Basically if The Camp is available during the time you'd like to stay, chances are that's fine. Off-peak rates depend on when and how long and are negotiable, so contact us about your plans.

Amenities:

The Tuttle Camp is clean, safe, and well (and lovingly) maintained, but as fair warning, it's not fancy! Our hope is that you will feel at home and comfortable.

The main camp living room is pine paneled, has a large stone fireplace, high ceiling and large picture windows with a view of the lake. There is plenty of comfortable seating. The guest apartment living room also has large picture windows with lake view.

The main camp dining room has a wooden drop-leaf table with extra leaves for large gatherings.

In the main camp there are 3 bedrooms, each with 2 twin beds. In the guest apartment there is 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds. Any of the twin beds can be joined together to form a king-size bed. There is also sofa-bed in the living room of the main camp. The bunkhouse also has twin bunk beds which could be used in a pinch or for kids' sleep-outs. Note that we prefer to limit full-time overnight guests to 8.

The main camp has a full bathroom with shower and a half-bath. The guest apartment has a full bathroom with shower/tub.

The main camp kitchen is well stocked with plenty of pots, pans, dishes, flatware, etc. for cooking and serving meals for a large family plus guests. There is a full set of modern appliances, including dishwasher and microwave. The guest apartment kitchenette has a sink and full-size refrigerator. A propane grill is also available.

There is a large screened porch with lake view that connects the main camp and the guest apartment.

The camp has a wooden dock, a canoe, and two aluminum row boats for guest use. There are also plenty of lawn chairs, etc., and an outdoor fire pit on the lakeside. There is also a swim raft that is shared by the Tuttle Camp and the Smith Camp next door.

The front yard (non-lake side) is large and perfect for kids' play or a grownups' game of croquette or touch football.

We try to keep television a very low priority at The Camp, but there is a 19" TV and DVD player for rainy days, etc. (no cable TV nor broadcast TV reception to speak of). High speed wired/wireless Internet access is also available and included.

Details:

Bed Linen/Towels/Laundry: The Camp has sheets and towels which, if used, must be washed and folded following your stay. For convenience you may wish to bring your own sheets and towels. There are no laundry facilities at The Camp but there is a laundromat in town.

Heating/Air Conditioning: Cazenovia weather can be cool in the evenings and mornings even at the peak of summer. Both the main camp and the guest apartment are heated. The Camp is not air-conditioned, but uncomfortably hot weather is rare.

Your Boat/PWC: Unfortunataly the only public launching facilities on the lake are restricted to use by local residents only. You may dock your boat at The Camp if you have a private means of launching. If your PWC can be hand/dolly-carried and hand-lauched from the dock, that's also fine (vehicles may not be driven over the lawn). The lake is patrolled by the local sheriff so make sure you are legal.

We apologize for the lack of good pictures. We just assumed ownership of The Camp fall 2006 and haven't had a chance to take good pictures, especially of the interior. The above pictures are from our vacation photos. We'll take and post more this spring after we reopen The Camp for the season. Also, there several interior and exterior improvement projects in the works, so the reality should be better than the pictures!
